Maserati going electric?
When having electric car discussions, you never hear words like Ferarri, Lamborghini, Maserati. Even the most sensible Italian brand “Fiat” doesn’t have an electric vehicle in production.
The Italians love the humbly loud engine because they’re petrol heads, who doesn’t love the noisy feedback from a spirited engine.
So what could be the drive behind this? The money of course! With the sudden rise in sales of electric cars and hybrids, everyone’s trying to green and all sharp car makers are cashing in on the EV trend.
With that said, Maserati plan on making Electric variants for all the cars in their lineup……..thankfully its a small one. Maserati’s North American chief, Al Gardner has already emphasized that the brand needs combustion engines.
Can’t imagine life without the sonorous roar of the Maserati V8.
Thankfully, all the main brands are also putting their foot down. Porsche CEO Oliver Blume last November said that the 911 will never become an EV, oh joy!
Maserati plans to introduce electric cars to their line up in 2022 and also make the standard lineup have hybrid versions. It is rumoured that the Maserati EVs will have up to electric three electric motors and run an 800v battery system.
Trying to save the brand or just trying to embrace the future, let’s see how it goes for the Italian brand.
