The Tesla Cybertruck is Here, And Robocop Would Be Proud
Finally, Tesla released its pickup truck after several months of teasing us with vague pictures from time to time. The renders made didn’t do any justice to what Elon Musk and the Tesla design team had cooked up.
The Truck looks like it came straight out of a scene of Cyberpunk, Bladerunner. If Robocop made a comeback to the movie theaters, this is what he’ll be driving.
Oh yeah, it’s also bulletproof to a certain degree. The body is made of ultra-hard 30X cold-rolled stainless steel, so it can withstand the bashing of a sledge hammer, bullets from a 9mm pistol but the windows cannot any form of punishment as they’re made from regular glass……might just upgrade your windows when you get one.
The truck subtly reminds us of one Stainless steel sports car from the 80s in form of the Delorean DMC. Though, unlike the Delorean, the Cybertruck isn’t underpowered, definetely not lacking in any area.
With several versions of truck available depending on how deep ones pocket is.
- Single motor rear-wheel drive with 250 miles of range, 7,500-pound towing capacity, and 0-60 mph capabilities in under 6.5 seconds, for $39,900.
- Dual motor all-wheel drive with 300 miles of range, 10,000-pound towing capacity, and 0-60 mph in under 4.5 seconds for $49,900.
- Triple motor all-wheel drive with 500 miles of range, 14,000-pound towing capacity, and 0-60 mph in under 2.9 seconds for $69,900. (Though this version won’t start production until late 2022.)
Tesla says the truck is faster than a Porsche 911 with a 0 to 100kph in 2.9seconds time and also more powerful than a Ford F150 truck in a tug of war thanks to the mountain of torque it generates. This sounds great, but how will it fare against other upcoming electric pickup trucks? The Rivian truck from Ford?
This might be the big break that Tesla needs though since pickup trucks are the best selling vehicles in the USA, the arrival of a new but brave design might sway buyers from the petrol-powered brutes offered by the big three.
